Alexander Downer
Alexander Downer AC is an Australian diplomat and former politician who served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 2007, the longest tenure in the role in Australian history. A member of the Liberal Party, he was Leader of the Opposition in 1994–1995. Downer held the seat of Mayo in South Australia from 1984 to 2008. Following his parliamentary career, he served as Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (2014–2018). Downer has remained active in public affairs, contributing to international diplomacy, policy think tanks, and strategic discussions on global affairs.
